Horace Phillips

Services for Horace Ben "Hobby" Phillips, 71, Canton, were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, December 13, at Eubank Funeral Home Chapel, Canton, with Rev. Steve Glosup officiating. Burial was in Haven of Memories Memorial Park, Canton. Mr. Phillips died December 12, 2005, in Tyler.

He was born August 21, 1934, in Grand Saline. He was of Baptist faith. He graduated from Edgewood High School, and attended Henderson County Junior College, where he played football for two years. He worked as a greens keeper for the Van Zandt Country Club for 37 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry and Maudie Lee, Thompson Phillips; his wife, Jo Nell Dotson Phillips; and brother, Henry Lee Phillips. Survivors include son and daughter-ion-law, Shawn and Kim Phillips, Canton; brother and sister- in-law, Hubert and Patsy Phillips, Canton; sister, Ruth Belcher, Canton; and grandchildren, Ashley Mitchell, Shawn Austin and Hayden James. Pallbearers included Donald Platter, Clyde Barber, Jimmy Cox, Larry Cox, Robert Mewbourn,

Ronald Montgomery, James Hooks and Tim James.
