Oliver "Lucky" Stephen Melton Sr 71, died Tuesday in the US Naval Hospital after a short illness’ Visitation will be from 7 to 9 Thursday in Anderson Funeral Home; aervices will be at 2 pm Friday in Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with interment in the Beaufort National Cemetery. Born Aug 3, 1915 in Derma, Miss., he was a son of the late Robert Lee and Mamie Dee Marbel Melton. Mr Melton was a member of the North China Marine's Club. After serving for more than 21 years in the US Marine Corps, Mr Melton retired as a master sergeant. He was a recipient of the Legion of Merit, Purple Heart, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Occupation Service Medal, American Defense Medal, two China Service Medals, one of which was awarded from the Republic of China, World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal for Korea, and Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal with Silver Star. Survivors include his wife Ethel Annette Bolen Melton of Beaufort, four sons, Oliver Stephen Melton, Jr. of Toledo, Ohio; Sidney Paul Melton, of Columbia, Stanley Wray Melton and Brian Scott Melton of Beaufort; two daughters Sandra Anne Mathis of Cowpens, and Linda Susan Canaday of Beaufort; two brothers, Warren A Melton, of Story, Ark., and Jack Melton of Portage, Ind.; four sisters, Pleasie Ott of Santa Rosa, Calif.; Labonne Thompson, of Gary, Ind., Robbie Goodin of Louisville, Ky., and Pauline Helbig, of Texas, and eight grandchildren.
