At the November Term of the County Court for the County of Jackson, in the Territory of Florida, begun and held at Marianna, on the twentieth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty—seven, was present the Honorable Richard H. Long, Judge of said Court. In open Court personally appeared Morton Gray, who being duly sworn says and declares as follows:

That he resides near Marianna in the County of Jackson and Territory of Florida. That he is seventy-one years of age and that he applies for the benefit of the provision made by the Act of Congress, passed June seventh, eighteen hundred and thirty-two.

That in the year seventeen hundred and eighty or eighty-one, he entered the service of his country, as a substitute for a man by the name of William Gorrin, as the declarant believes in a_Company commanded by a Captain Hicks, the Regiment by Colonel Taylor, the number of the Regiment not recollected, the Brigade commanded by Genl. Butler and remained in said Company until just before the battle at Guilford Court House, when the company was divided and he fell into a company commanded by Capt. Hodges in the same Regiment and Brigade and under the same field and General officers; that he served under said officers three months as a private; that he was in the battle at Guilford Court House, from which place he was marched to Ramsay's Mills in Chatham County where he enlisted in the army of the United States for a term of twelve months in the year; He thinks of seventeen hundred and eighty-one, under Lieutenant Campbell and joined the Battallion under Major Pink Eaton and the main army under Genl. Green. He was then marched to Camden, South Carolina, and was in the skirmish between Genl. Green and Lord Rawdon; he was then detached from the main army, and with others sent to Fort Mott under the command of Maj. Eaton and was at the taking of said Fort. From that place he marched to Augusta, in the State of Georgia, where Brown and Grayson were besieged: Major Eaton, our commander, was killed; and both Forts, after thirty-two days siege were taken. Capt. Smith for a part of the time commanded the company to which he belonged: and under Lieut. Campbell and Capt. Smith, in Maj. Eaton’s Battallion he served five months as a private. Here with others he was detached and left to take care of sick and wounded. He was here furloughed by a Capt. Walker, to return home, and not being again called upon to perform the remainder of his Term of Service.

In the year seventeen hundred and eighty-one. in the County of Washington, in the State of North Carolina, as a substitute for John Black he joined the Troops, then raising to go against the Cherokee Indians, and continued in that service eight months as a private under command of Capt. Stinson and Williams and Colonels Seviere and Robinson, that his discharge from said service has been lost. The declarant relinquishes every other claim to any pension, than the one under the Act June 7, 1832.

Act of Feb. 3, 1853. Her husband was pensioned, Act June 7, 1832, at $20.00 a year and died Jan. 9, 1857. Ann Gray, widow of Morton Gray, inscribed on Roll at the rate $20.00 per annum, to commence Jan. 8th, 1857.
