oseph Gilbert Kaulay was born on December 16, 1895 in Fort Sill, Comanche County, Oklahoma to Kiowa parents Calvin and Maud "Tahote" Kaulay. Calvin was a member of the Troop L Indian Scouts. He married Anna "Annie" Walker and they had six children together. He then married Nancy "Minnie" Perkaquanard in 1941 in Lawton, Oklahoma. He died on October 21, 1987, in Pawnee, Oklahoma, at the age of 91, and was buried in Meers, Comanche County, Oklahoma.
