Phillips Abbott was born June 4, 1922, Louisville, Jefferson County Georgia. His parents are Phillips Abbott, Sr (1894- 1953) and Frances (Brimberry) (1895-1991) both Georgia native. His dad Phillips worked at a furniture store as a salesperson. His mom is a housewife. He has one sister named Frances and one younger brother named William.

There is no card or any type of information on his enlistment. Phillips had one year of college, he went to Davidson College in North Carolina in the 1940’s and then in 1942 he went to UGA in Athens, Georgia.

Phillips Abbott was with the 390th Fighter Squadron, 366th Fighter Group. He was a fighter pilot of the P-47 Thunderbolt.

He took off from A-1 at St-Pierre-du-Mont on a mission over Tours. He was flying in the no.4 spot in Blue Section. According to 2nd Lt Herbert G. Stewart, Abbott was hit by flak and bailed out at 1600, but his parachute did not open on time and he plummeted to his death.
