My dad told me about a recon mission him and Gil were on by given orders from operations..

They were in an ambulance and dad was driving. Gil was an observer looking for the Nazi's as they were heading towards a town (name not given) ahead of them.

Apparently they got to the middle of this town and Gil yelled Nazi's!

The Nazi's spotted the ambulance and were startled by there sudden appearance in town. They were undecided for a moment whether to shoot or not. Ambulances were suppose to be protected by Geneva Convention, But there was no guarantee at any time.

In the mean time dad turned the ambulance around and left as fast as it would go. They were not sure if a chase would happen from the Nazi's or run into an ambush on the way back to there forward location.

When they got back and reported what they saw and what occured to operations. They both knew they were lucky to get back without a scratch. I think they celebrated this together later.
