Fred A. Scott was born on July 9, 1921 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to Alexander Scott and Mabel Scott, nee Barden. Both parents were born in Canada. Fred was the oldest of five children. His siblings were Raymond, Donald, Gracie, and Evelyn Scott. The family lived in Port Angeles, Clallam County, Washington, where Alexander worked for the City Water Works.

Fred registered for the draft on February 14, 1942. He was 20 years old, 5’8” tall, and weighed 136 pounds. He had blonde hair, blue eyes, and a light complexion. He lived in Port Angeles, Clallam County. His employer was the Lee Hotel Garage in Port Angeles. He enlisted in the United States Army on December 9, 1942 in Tacoma, Washington. He was working as a telephone, telegraph or power lineman. He was single, without dependents, and had a grammar school education.

Private Fred A. Scott served in the 7th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division.

On July 10, 1943, the 7th Infantry made an amphibious assault at Licata, Sicily. In 1944, it landed at Anzio, conducted a breakout and drove towards Rome. In August 1944, the regiment landed in Southern France and advanced up the Rhone River to the frontline in the Vosges Mountains. After fighting in the Vosges, and in the Alsace at the Colmar Pocket, the 7th crossed the Rhine into Germany.

According to Army hospital records, Private Scott was treated several times:

· Italy - November 1943, stepped on a land mine, wounded in his thigh.

· January 1944, artillery shell fragments in his leg, debris.

· May 1944, artillery shell fragments in his leg.

· October 1944, artillery shell fragments in his back.

Private Scott was killed in action on March 15, 1945 in France. He is buried in the Union Cemetery, Sedro-Woolley, Skagit County, Washington. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart.
