id-16th Century a notable contingent emerged as a Basque diaspora settled Nueva Vizcaya (New Biscay) and Nueva Galicia (New Galicia). Some of these were Midi-Pyrénées region French Basque explorers, clergy, soldiers, vaqueros, merchants.. - whose descendants relocated to the US and served during WWII.
