William H. Chamberlain

on of Ninian Chamberlain (1792-1877) and Margaret Watkins (1790-1863), of Knox Co., TN. Wm. served in the Mexican-American War, which lasted from 1846 to 1848. In 1851, he married Mary Ella Calloway, who was then only 14 years old. Wm. was elected as a member of the TN General Assembly in the early 1850s. He also fought for the Confederacy during the U.S. Civil War. Wm. and Mary were the parents of 8 children: Mary Emeline; Margaret Ann; Florence Adelia; Thomas Ninian; Albert B.; John James; Belle G.; and Daniel H. After the war, the family removed to Caldwell Co., TX, where Wm. died in 1878.
