Arthur Hughes

GETTYSBURG, South Dakota - Arthur M. Hughes died Sunday at his Gettysburg home at the age of 84.

Hughes was born Dec. 4, 1890 in Gettysburg and resided there until he entered the military in 1917. He served overseas in World War I and following his discharge, moved to Hot Springs, SD. . While in Hot Springs he was a motel owner-operator from 1938-63. He married Iva Klein Aug. 19, 1920 in Aberdeen. Hughes had recently returned to reside in Gettysburg.

Hughes was a past member of the American Legion, a 23 year member of the Hot Springs Cribbage Club and a member of the World War I Club.

Survivors include his widow, Iva, Gettysburg; two sisters, Mrs. John (Blanche) Lundgren, Porland, Ore., and Mrs. Charles (Anna) Forest, Clark; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Langslet Funeral Home in Gettysburg with the Rev. Donald Rahn officiating. Interment will be in the Gettysburg Cemetery.
