Sherwood R. "Skip" Barstad of Owasso died Dec. 4, 1998 at the age of 77. He was born Aug. 8, 1921 in Ray, North Dakota, to Warren and Grace Barstad.

He was reared and educated in Monterey. Calif. He was a veteran of the armed forces having served his country with the U.S. Navy during World War II as an instructor and Naval pilot.

After his honorable discharge in 1946 he continued his education at UC Berkley, graduating in 1948 with a degree in economics.

He spent most of his working life with Golden West Box Company and Calzona Box Company before retiring from American Forest Company.

He was married to the former Mary Ann Jackson on Aug. 8, 1980 in Bakersfield, Calif. While living in Bakersfield he was an active member of Canyon Community Church.

After moving to Owasso in 1997 he became a member of First Baptist Church. In his pastime he enjoyed playing golf. He helped many people and was loved by everyone. He will be greatly missed.

Loving family members include his wife of 18 years, Ann, of the home; a son, Lance Barstad of Kihei, Maui, Hawaii; a daughter, Kirsten Mulvey of Valley Springs, Calif.; one grandson, Patrick Mulvey; four step-children; 13 step-grandchildren; one sister, Norma Tubolino of Valley Springs, Calif; three nephews and one niece.

Funeral services were held Dec. 8 at First Baptist Church Owasso with Dr. Roger Ferguson serving as officiating minister. Serving as escorts were Ben Jackson, Don Harnage, Carl Branscum, Lanny Jackson, Patrick Mulvey and Reed Woods.

Committal services and interment followed at Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson, Okla. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso.
