LEWISTOWN, IL - Joseph A. Cooley, 64, of Rural Route 2 died at 11:20 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 1994, at Graham Hospital Extended Care in Canton, Illinois.

Born May 12, 1929, in Clinton County to John W. and Francis B. Little Cooley, he married June E. Smith on March 30, 1971, in Lewistown. She died Nov. 29, 1993.

He also was preceded in death by one brother.

Surviving are one son, Joseph Cooley of San Antonio, Texas; six stepsons, Daniel Smith of Chatham, David Smith and Dean Smith, both of Mackinaw, Dale Smith of Lewistown, Dwayne Smith of Fiatt and Dennis Smith of Lincoln; five daughters, JoAnne Smith of East Peoria, Barbara Hackard of Lovelace, Ky., Dianne Hicks of Edwardsville, Tina Harrison of Baton Rouge, La., and Pam Kay Greenwood of Edwardsville; one stepdaughter, Diane Smith of Seattle, Wash.; 24 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He retired as a journeyman welder from Caterpillar Inc. He was a Korean War Army veteran.

Burial will be in Bath Cemetery in Bath.
