arry served in the USMC from 9 Aug 1900 to 8 Aug 1905, and was discharged as a Corporal. He enlisted from Binghamton, NY and went to the Marine Barracks at League Island, PA (at the Philadelphia Navy Yard); the Marine Barracks at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD; Company “G”, 4th Battalion, Cavite in the Phillipines; aboard the USS Concord (PG-3); Mare Island, CA; aboard the USS Wisconsin in Panama; aboard the USS Solace (AH-2); back to Mare Island, CA; and back to League Island, PA. He was appointed Corporal in April, 1905. His grave is marked by a Spanish-American War Veteran marker. During his duty in the USMC, Harry boxed with Schmedley D. Butler, later the mayor of Philadelphia. He played the trumpet (he was temporarily designated as “Trumpeter”; the instrument was perhaps a cornet) and was sent TDY to the Marine Corps Barracks in Washington, D.C. in February 1905 to play at the inauguration of President Theodore Roosevelt.
