Alfred Liechti of Seneca, South Dakota, was a Tech-4 with the Headquarters Battery 147th Field artillery as a radio operator during WW II. He enlisted in the National Guard at Flandreau, South Dakota on 29 Sep 1939 and was called to active duty on 25 Nov 1940. He served in New Guinea, Luzon, and the East Indies. He was discharged on 15 Jun 1942 at Ft Snelling, MN.

Walter Liechti

Walter enlisted in the National Guard on 4 Feb 1941. He was a pvt. serving as a truck driver in Tunisia, and in Italy near Naples and Foggia. He was wounded on 3 Jan 1944 and received the Purple Heart. He was discharged at Camp McCoy, WI on 30 Aug 1945. He lived in Faulkton, SD until his death in 1988.

William Liechti

Following school, Bill entered the U.S. Navy, January 1943. His three older brothers, Alfred, Walt, and Ernest were already serving in the Army at the time Bill had enlisted. Bill's oldest brother, John, was considered the head of the household after their father had died in 1926 in a hunting accident. Bill served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946, stationed in the Pacific on several islands during that time as part of the P.A.T.S.U. 1-7 ordinance, servicing the Black Cats, amphibious PBY-Catalina planes during the Pacific Theatre.
