LT. William Kidd Redmon, Jr. was a P-47 Fighter Pilot with the 12th Air Force; 350th Fighter Group; 347th Fighter Squadron; stationed in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations during World War Two.

On 13 December 1944, while piloting P-47-28-RA ; serial #: 42-28914; MACR: 10779; it is believed that Lt. Redmon, Jr. flew through his own bomb blast, damaging his plane, and he was forced to bail out before it exploded. He was captured by the enemy and held as a Prisoner of War at CAMP 032; Stalag Luft 1 Barth-Vogelsang Prussia 54-12.

Lt. Redmon, Jr. was liberated on the 4th of July 1945; and returned to the U.S. He re-enlisted and continued to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force for more than 29 years; in a career that spanned three wars. World War II; the Korean War; and Viet Nam. He retired with the Rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

WILLIAM K. REDMON JR.
WILLIAM K. REDMON JR., 77, died Wednesday at St. Bernardine Medical Center in San Bernardino. Born in Deming, N.M., he lived in Lytle Creek 30 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force 29 years before he retired as a lieutenant colonel. He served during World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars.

He was past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Muscoy and district commander for VFW District Three.

He is survived by his wife, Beulah; a son, Michael of San Jose; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Patricia Fredrick of Missouri.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today at Riverside National Cemetery. Ingold Chapel in Fontana is handling arrangements.
