LaPORTE - James A. Borg, 77, LaPorte, died at 3 a.m. Saturday (March 23,2002) at his home, 277 W. Johnson Rd., LaPorte.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, LaPorte, with the Rev. Ted Nordquist officiating. Burial will be in Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte. There will be a graveside Military service conducted by Hubner/Swanson American Legion Post 83.

Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte. A wake service will be at 7 p.m. Monday; and Tuesday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Pine Lake Cemetery with graveside military services by Hamon Gray American Legion Post 83.

Mr. Borg was born Nov. 18, 1924, in LaPorte to Frank O. Sr. and Mary R. (Willie) Borg, and had lived here his entire life.

On July 16, 1949, in LaPorte, he married Mary B. (Mickey) Heatherson, who survives.

Survivors also include two daughters, Jan (Dennis) Deutscher, Michigan City, Patty (Bill) Gangwer, LaPorte; six grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents an infant daughter, Mary Ann Borg; two sisters, Magdalene Boardman and Mary R. Borg; and four brothers, Frank O. Borg Jr., Hubert Borg, Bernard Borg and John Borg.

Mr. Borg was retired as a salesman for LaPorte County Beverage. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he served as an usher. He was past commander and member of Hamon Gray American Legion Post 83, and was a member of Beacon Hills Senior Men's Club and the Lancers Drum and Bugle Corps. He was an instructor with Maple City Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps, also serving as an All-American judge for band and drum corps. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II, serving with the 22nd Bomb Group in the Pacific Theater.

He was Past commander and member of Hubner/SwansonAmerican Legion Post 83.

He was also a member of Lancers Drum & Bugle Corps and an instructor with Maple City Cadet Drum & Bugle Corps and All American Judge for Band & Drum Corps.

He was an usher at St. Joseph Catholic Church and a member of Beacon Hills Senior Men's Club.
