Jesse Barney Zellner was in combat in Europe for over three years,he was awarded two medals,the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star medal.

Jesse Barney Zellner,was my first cousin,his mother Jesse and my father Harold (Jack) Amburn were sister and brother.
My memory of J.B.(thats the name we called him) is only slight,we lived in Jack county,Texas, my father moved us to northern calif when I was 7yrs old (1940).
My father recieved a telegram in 1947 from his sister Jesse,J.B. was missing and she wanted him to come home to Texas to look for him.
He had been in a car with two other people when an arguement started and J.B. asked them to stop and let him out. They continued on down the road and left him standing on a bridge. They decided to go back and look for him and they only found his clothes and billfold.
The local police search the river,my father helped them but no body was ever found,to this day no one in our family has ever seen J.B. again.
The family suspected he had met with foul play,we will never know. Aunt Jesse never got over losing J.B.after all the years her eyes filled with tears when she talked about him,he was only 25.

I think that he might have been suffering from PTSD and committed suicide. The fact that his clothes and wallet were found near the river points to suicide rather than foul play. Or he might have gone for a swim and drowned accidentally.
