The King has been graciously pleased to approve of the grant of the Victoria Cross to the undermentioned for the conspicuous acts of bravery: - Midshipman George Leslie Drewry, Royal Naval Reserve. REGISTER OF VICTORIA CROSS CITATION: On 25th April 1915 during the landing at V Beach, Cape Helles, Gallipoli, Midshipman Drewry and three others of HMS River Clyde, assisted the commander of the ship at the work of securing the lighters under a very heavy rifle and Maxim fire. He was wounded in the head, but continued his work and twice subsequently attempted to swim from lighter to lighter with a line.
