Gazette Information: VICTORIA CROSS,: https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/28998/supplement/10411. No. 9553 Private George Wilson, 2nd Battalion, The Highland Light Infantry. On 14th September 1914 near Verneuill, France, Private Wilson went with a rifleman to try to locate a machine-gun which was holding up the advance of the 2nd Battalion, Highland Light Infantry. When the rifleman was killed, Private Wilson went on alone and, when he reached his target shot six of the enemy, bayoneted the officer and then captured the gun.
