Lieutenant Frederick William Campbell, 1 Battalion, Western Ontario Regiment, Canadian Expeditionary Force. On 15th June 1915 at Givenchy, France, Lieutenant Campbell took two machine-gun detachments forward and in face of heavy fire reached the German front line trench with one gun which he kept in action after nearly all his detachment had been killed or wounded. When the German counter-attack came, Lieutenant Campbell advanced his gun still further by firing about 1,000 rounds succeeded in holding the enemy back, but he was mortally wounded and died four days later.
